As one can see from above pics, there was an excellent turnout for the TAUPO VINTAGE CAR RALLY..held on the 28th Oct., 2007.
Dawned a fabulous clear morning when the South Waikato Vintage car club members
departed the Town centre for the Atiamuri 'Bull Ring' , on arriving we found members of the RVCC already settled in and enjoying refreshments...about 1.0 the first of the TVCC cars (the little beauty above with the spoked wheels) appeared from out the green shadows of the forest road,.....All were assembled, then at 1.30 in a long colourful winding crocodile, of the slow, not so slow and medium slow vehicles started on their journey.....
Along the main highway and a turn to the right... turning onto the signposted Whakamaru/TeKuiti. road, passing a historic Maori Marae down the way, it was very picturesque around the little lakes... further along we passed the Snowsill and Dunham Creek reserves, on further a farm called Serenity Cove, then to the WHAKAMARU HYDRO DAM, crossing that we came to the Whakamaru Village...there. around a corner.....super gorgeous old , but real oldtime turn of the century cottages, surreal in sepia dreamtime... looking like a Colonial film set, (would have loved some pics here, shall have to go back one day)....along further to the TIROHANGA/MOKIA Rd., this was the highest point of the rally, ...it was very pretty vista coming down into the valley with the sun shining thru lacy new green leaves on the trees, here and there was a splash of golden gorse which livened up the ever green landscape, saw no sheep, no cows, pretty empty high country, this whole area has an amazing amount of History re sawmills, Hydro Scheme, and railway, we had a good view of the snowcapped mountains at one stage, we then ended up at the TIROHANGA HALL where we all enjoyed a most welcome cuppa, and afternoon tea, this was the time of catching up with old friends, making new ones, after a very enjoyable day, we all made our way home.....thank you Taupo VCC for a fabulous day! co
